Stationary phase is chemically bonded as well as cross-linked to increase the stability. Columns can be rinsed by organic solvents to rejuvenate them by removing semi-volatile and polar residues deposited during the use of the column. This is a general purpose slightly polar column. Due to the introduction of 5% phenyl, selectivity of this column for the separation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons is better than that of the ICB-1 column.
